This is a continuation of an earlier post about university campus WiFi networks. The first school that I will be profiling is the University of California, Berkeley.
“The University of California, Berkeley, is a public research university located in Berkeley, California, United States. The oldest of the ten major campuses affiliated with the University of California, the University was founded in 1868 in a merger of the private College of California and the public Agricultural, Mining, and Mechanical Arts College. The university occupies 6,651 acres (2,692 ha) with the central campus resting on approximately 200 acres (80.9 ha)[3] in the San Francisco Bay Area.” [Wikipedia]
AirBears WiFi Profile
“Beginning in Fall 2001, a pilot wireless LAN service became available in a few selected locations around campus. The new service, known as AirBears, enables one to connect to the campus network using a laptop equipped with a wireless Ethernet card. The service is based on the IEEE standard 802.11b wireless LAN technology, which supports speeds of up to 11 Mbps.” [source]
