iPhone Mobile Hotspot Feature on AT&T Will Be Better

iPhone Personal Mobile Hotspot Feature on AT&T Will Be BetterI’m not sure why Verizon having the Mobile Hotspot feature is getting so much attention since this feature has been available on other phones for many years.

I guess because it is Apple…it is news worthy…..plus the fact that Verizon’s iPhone 4 will have this feature first and not iPhone users on AT&T. Once the hot spot feature is enabled, the iPhone becomes a WiFi access point and allows up to five devices to share the iPhones data connection. The one item that is not mentioned in any press release is that because Verizon uses CDMA technology on it’s network, voice calling can not be used at the same time as the data connection.

AT&T uses GSM technology and supports data and voice at the same time. Using an iPhone as a WiFi access point is already possible today using third party software (here and here) so the technology and hardware is available in the AT&T phone. It is just up to AT&T if it wants to allow this. My guess is that because AT&T’s network is already suffering from performance issues they want to be careful with features that will load the network even more. But once they do….iPhone’s personal mobile hotspot feature will be better any GSM when compared to a CDMA network like Verizon’s.
