WLANController has two components, a software client that transforms Windows / Mac OS X based computers into WiFi virtual access points and scanners and a web based dashboard that can manage multiple devices from a single graphical user interface. The WLANController Dashboard and client make the deployment and management of large WiFi networks quicker, simpler and less costly. We eliminated the need for any new hardware and software (other than our client) by using the Virtual Access Point capabilities available in Windows and WiFi scanning capabilities available in Windows and Mac OS X.

The latest feature to be added is location tracking and location estimation. This feature is sometimes called trilateration or triangulation. It is very handy when trying to locate rogue access points. If you don’t have an account sign up at https://manage.wlancontroller.com/usersignup.jsp

To use feature follow steps below.

1) Place three sensors on map
2) Go to Scanner Tab
3) Right click BSSID column for device and select “Locate Device”
4) If three sensors see device, globe is placed on map and balloon
shows MAC address, SSID, and scanners that detected device and RSSI in %
5) If less than 3 sensors detect device being tracked a circle is drawn
indicating that device is probably within circle.
